Coffee Mistake?

So when people want an extra kick with their morning coffee, they add a shot of espresso. When I worked in a coffee shop, they told us that an espresso drink has less caffeine than a cup of coffee, because of the amount of coffee. An espresso drink usually has a lot of milk and just a small amt of espresso. So it has less caffeine than a whole cup of coffee. But I'm not sure how a shot of espresso compares to a shot of regular coffee. Are their caffeine levels the same?

I just made a cup of espresso roast....a whole cup. We'll see how jittery I am in about an hour...

Edit: Ok after Katie Jeans Jewelry commented below, I checked with wikipedia. It looks like a shot of espresso (1oz.) has about the same caffeine in it as a 3oz cup of coffee. I'm drinking an almost 10oz cup of just espresso...I might be posting a lot today with all of this extra energy...lol

I heard it was just the opposite. Espresso has more caffeine. I just like espresso water and milk which is an americano with milk. I dont care for coffee.
